Today from 11 to 2 JCIL celebrated the 22nd Anniversary of the Signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
This day is celebrated as American's "Second Independence Day"
This year over 400 people showed up for a free barbecue lunch, live bluegrass music, and lots of fun. JCIL also handed out awards and the Volunteer of The Year Award was given to none other than our own Suzanne Allison!
Congratulations on all of your hard work Suzanne and thank you for giving your time and talents to the West Tennessee community!
Through years of hard work and research John S Mitchell, Belinda Mitchel's son, has amassed a collection of Tennessee Music that includes 1,413 sound recordings, 589 pieces of sheet music, 24 books, one film and 22 posters.
He has generously donated this collection to The Center for Popular Music at MTSU. Because of this music collection (John S. Mitchell Collection of Tennessee Music) and the collections of others a grant was given to the school to digitize the music.
These historical tracks will be digitized and incorporated into their website so that this amazing local music can be preserved and shared for years to come.
We thank people like John who so selflessly dedicate themselves to discovering, restoring, and sharing the past for future generations.
