Allison Insurance recently welcomed Cindy Deaton to our team. Cindy works in our Life and Health Department. We asked Cindy to answer a few questions so that you could get to know her better!
What is your favorite holiday?
My favorite Holiday is Christmas! I have been collecting Christmas ornaments from Hallmark, cat ornaments, Coca Cola ornaments and pretty Christmas decorations for over 30 years.
Are you involved in the community?
I have always supported causes that pertained to animals. I have always had cats and love them. My involvement in the community is mostly visiting the sick, going to funeral home visitations and showing concern for the downtrodden. I have been working on family genealogy for some time rounding up all of my relatives for several generations on both sides of the family. I am the self appointed class historian for my senior class at North Side High School. I worked on our 10 and 20 year reunion committees.
Where are you from?
I was born here in Jackson, TN and lived here all of my life except for 2 years that my dad transferred to Memphis in the insurance business with Life of Georgia. I thank God every single day that I didn’t grow up in Shelby County, TN and that he chose to come back to our hometown of Jackson.
Why did you get into insurance?
The insurance business was my dad’s and my uncle’s profession, and I am no stranger to it. But, this profession sneaked in on me as I was looking for something different to do after leaving the nursing home. I dealt with lots of insurance issues at both the nursing home and the credit union where I have previously worked. I worked from 1989 until 2007 at what was known originally as Postal Employees Credit Union (now Patriot Equity Credit Union), and I worked from 2008 until 2013 at NHC Healthcare in Milan.
What are your insurance qualifications, certifications, etc?
I have a life and health insurance license. I have been a Notary Public for many years. Due to working in Admissions at the nursing home, my passion is making sure that elderly people have Medicare supplements and Long Term Care Insurance.
What about your family?
I have elderly parents and no children from my only marriage. I do have a wonderful “significant other” that I plan to marry in the near future. Though I am an only child, I have been surrounded all my life with a wonderful large family on both sides with many aunts, uncles and cousins that I have remained close to all these years.
Do you have any college affiliations?
I graduated with highest honors from North Side High School in 1978, cum laude from JSCC in 1981 and cum laude from Union University in 1984. I majored in Industrial Management at JSCC and majored in Management and Marketing with a minor in Psychology at Union University. I was Editor of my school newspaper in high school and always a Beta Club member.
Is there anything else we should know about you?
I have no fancy titles in this world and do not desire them. All that I am concerned with is being genuine and helping people in any way that I can at work and in my acquaintance circles and taking good care of my own personal world at home. I grew up in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and am grateful that my parents were so inclined to make sure that I had God in my life from day one.
